The Journey of One Extraordinary Middle Child and his 2 Siblings

Ryder is my middle child. He is 6 years old. Ryder loves being silly. He loves chocolate. He celebrates his individuality.
I hope you enjoy his view of the world as much as I do.

The Naughty List

Ryder is a challenge to parent.  There is no other way to say it.  Just when Luke and I think we have him figured out, he throws us a curve ball. Last week, he was acting up A LOT.  I felt like the arguing would never end.  Even Leah would say, "Rye don't argue wit Mommy!"

It just so happened that John, our family Elf on a Shelf, delivered letters from Santa to each child last week. Every kid had a few sentences stating things they are doing well and areas where they need to continue working.  At the bottom of the letter, the children could see if they were on the "Nice" or Naughty" List.  3 out of 4 kids made the Nice List.  Ryder ended up on the Naughty List.

When the kids woke up and found their letters, I expected Ryder to be devastated by this naughty news.  To the contrary, he simply shrugged and said, "I'm on the naughty list?!  At least I'll get coal!"

Yup.  I guess he found the bright side?  I am still unsure how to parent this optimist.  Thankfully he has turned his behavior around the last few days for the better.  I expect some news from the North Pole of a list change any day now.
