If you know Luke, you know he doesn't take life too seriously. He is a big kid at heart, and gets the most joy just spending time with his kids. He wrestles, plays water balloons, hide and seek, baseball, super heroes, and anything else they desire. He also feeds babies, changes diapers, rocks and sings lullabies and swaddles a newborn better than any nurse I have ever seen. Luke also covers the big lessons. He teaches the boys that you don't always win, learning is important, and family comes first. He loves the kids for all the ways they are just like him, and all the ways that they are completely different.
Just after Parker was born, I remember watching Luke hold his newborn son in my hospital room. I told him that little baby would be his best friend some day. Luke said, "He already is." At the time it was just a sweet sentiment, but now I know it really is true. Overnight, my husband became a dad and both our worlds changed forever. His kids are his best friends.
I know, that while we have made mistakes as parents, and are sure to make many more, I am raising boys that will also be great dads too someday.
